Sterling Silver Tea Service

View text

Commissioned by Georg Jensen to create a tea service in sterling silver based on the historic Blossom tea set, the Newson tea service was offered in a limited edition of 10, stamped with an ‘MN’ maker’s mark. The design and engineering process took more than six months and included the integration of state-of-the-art technology with the handcraftsmanship of Georg Jensen’s legendary silversmith, incorporating rapid 3D prototyping in the initial phase of development.

The Edition pieces required more than three months of hand-hammering and were made to order in the company’s workshop in Copenhagen. The service was comprised of five pieces: a teapot, coffee pot, creamer, sugar bowl, and tray. The teapot, coffee pot and creamer were embellished with responsibly sourced Mammoth handles, whilst the tray’s perimeter was wound in natural rattan.

“It has been a great honour working with Georg Jensen on this project as handcraft has always been an important part of design, and it has played an important role in my own career. Having originally trained as a silversmith, I have an enormous respect for Georg Jensen as a company that champions both pure design and the importance of the individual craftsperson.”
