Invited by Nike to create a new sneaker, the NikeLab Air VaporMax x Marc Newson demonstrates their close collaborative relationship. Marc was inspired by Nike’s latest innovation, the VaporMax platform for his design, and married the technical Air VaporMax platform with a Flyknit and leather upper.

“There’s this marvellous cultural juxtaposition of skills and things going on in this project. The cross stitch reflects a traditional handcraft, while the knit and sole unit are evident of highly technical innovations. It’s wonderful to be given the opportunity to work with all these incredible new technologies and materials.

One is immediately compelled to touch these shoes and try to figure out how they work- they’re incredibly tactile, which is a mesmerising thing. Ultimately, they’re a product I want to use every day.”
